Google Discussion:

The Childbearing Society is pleased to announce its latest addition: Our new "google" discussion group. This is a web based forum in which all of our current and past clients and members can share information, trade tips, discuss experiences, ask questions, and offer answers pertaining to pregnancy, birth, babies, and parenthood.

We have sent e-mail invitations to everyone who took our classes from 2006 to the present. (If we somehow missed you, or if we no longer have your current e-mail address, or if you took classes with us prior to 2006 and would like to join, please let us know at registration@childbearing.org, and we will send you an invitation right away). We welcome all of our graduates and old friends, whose experience and wisdom will be much appreciated by all the newer parents in the forum.

We look forward to discussing a wide range of topics with all of you.

The Secret Life of Babies by Dr.Mia Kalef

We now have 40 copies of Dr Mia Kalef's new book for sale at $25 each when you register for one of our classes. Here's a summary from her website:

This fascinating collection of scientific data, case studies and easy-to-implement therapeutic tools helps bring awareness to how your health is influenced by the period between the time you were conceived and your birth. It also shows how cultures the world-over seem to be playing out experiences learned during these early times. This is a great tool for your own introspection or can be used to assist you when interacting with your own clients, families or patients.

our philosophy

We strive to provide comprehensive childbearing classes of the highest quality. We prepare clients by increasing their knowledge of changes in the childbearing year and enhancing their coping skills for childbirth. By increasing their self- confidence, we help expectant parents to participate in decision-making for labour and birth in order to have a satisfying experience. We see ourselves as advocates for clients. We promote family-centered maternity care and work to improve the experience of childbirth for parents within the health care system. We strive to give continuity of care in the postpartum period through informal follow-up care and counseling.

apprenticeship programme

New this year, we now have a programme designed for those with perinatal backgrounds to certify on the job as Childbearing instructors. As ever, we still have our regular practicum for those who already hold a Childbirth Education certificate. If you are or want to be a childbirth educator; enjoy working in a supportive environment with like-minded colleagues; and have a desire to help parents in the exciting journey of the childbearing year; we want you. Were looking for dedicated people with a passion for pregnancy, birth and parenting to train with our experienced teachers. Give us a call at 604-304-0201 or email Jennifer at registrar@childbearing.org
